SELECT CREATOR, SELECT TYPE These two commands allow you to enter 4-character type or creator codes without having to remember the exact codes yourself. The command "Select Creator" brings up a dialog where you can select an application; the creator code of that application will be entered for you in: (1) the creator code box of the "Find Files" dialog, (2) the creator code box of the "Set Type/Creator" dialog, and, if it is the frontmost window, (3) the creator code box of the "File Info" window. For example, say you have some paint-type files; you want to set the creator of the these files to FullPaint, (so that double-clicking their icons in the Finder will start the FullPaint program). You choose "Select Creator", go to the folder or disk that contains FullPaint, select it, then click "Open". The characters PANT are entered in the creator code box, and the name "FullPaint" is displayed beside. "Select Type" works similarly. This command displays a dialog with a list of common file types and their descriptions. The type and its description are entered in: (1) the type code box of the "Find Files" dialog, (2) the type code box of the "Set Type/Creator" dialog, and, if it is the frontmost window, (3) the type code box of the "File Info" window.
